Itinerary Walk the Rock 2018

Day 1
órzola – Haria

Setting off from the northern village of Lanzarote, Orzola, we wind our way amidst the Famara Massif (in winter is the lushest area of Lanzarote) until we will arrive at the charming village of Haria located at the One Thousand Palm Tree Valley.

We will walk across deep ravines, lush valleys and a rough patchwork of cultivated fields enjoying fabulous panoramic views while the imposing craters of La Corona Volcano (we climb it!!) and La Quemada will keep us company.

Day 2
HARIA – TEGUISE

Haria and Teguise are probably the two most important villages in the island’s history. Our days begins in the handsome settlement of Haria walking straight uphill to the highest point of Lanzarote where we enjoy breathtaking aerial views of La Graciosa Island and the Chinijo Archipelago, one of the most important Natural Parks in Europe. We will keep walking alongside the cliffs in our way down to the ancient capital of the island, Teguise.

The village still retains its original carácter of cobbled streets and old buildings and wandering alonitsg them we will be transported to the ancient times when the landlords and pirates where the protagonists of Lanzarote´s history

Day 3
TEGUISE – EL CUERVO VOLCANO

This is the longest walk of the week and will take us to the extraordinary Park of the Volcanoes, a place of dramatic beauty.

Starting from Teguise, we will soon be crossing one of the unique landscapes of Lanzarote: El Jable. This semi-desertic area has been successfully cultivated during centuries by the farmers of Lanzarote, and it is home of the endemic bird Canarian Hubara (Chlamydotis undulata fuertaventurae).

After crossing the village of Tiagua, the former economic capital of Lanzarote, we will start spotting the outskirts of the Natural Park of the Volcanoes, the result of the eruptions that devastated nearly a quarter of the surface of Lanzarote shaping one of the most beautiful volcanic landscapes on Earth.

Day 4
EL CUERVO – FEMES

Today await us a unique agricultural landscape: the vineyards of La Geria. After setting off from the vicinity of El Cuervo Volcano, we will arrive in the wine district where the peasants of Lanzarote with much sacrifice and effort left one of the highlights of the island, a place not to be missed.

During our day, we will walk up (weather dependent) the third highest point of Lanzarote from where we will enjoy some of the best views of the island. After enjoying a well-deserved break at the village of Uga, we will start our ascent to the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches arriving at the final point of the day, the village of Femes.

Day 5
FEMES – PAPAGAYO BEACH

The last day of Walk the Rock. Today we will be walking amidst the barren and rugged mountains of the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches, one of the oldest geological áreas of the Canary Islands, where you are unlikely to see another soul save for a goatherd.

Impressive views of the Atlantic Ocean and our neighbour island of Fuerteventura will accompany us until our arrival at the stunning Papagayo Beach.
