Hi, I am Jose Luis, the owner of Walking in Lanzarote and Blackstone Treks & Tours. I am originally from Barcelona, but I left my city a very long time, living in different places until Sonia and I arrived in Lanzarote in October 2001 as a part of a big trip.

The island was supposed to be another stopover, another week in our trip but we never left. We fell in love with this beautiful place.

My background is Tourism, and I have been working in the travelling industry since I remember: hotels, TTOO, professional guide, travelling with groups all over the world and now running my own company with my “partner in crime” Raquel, a friend who shares my passion and love for Lanzarote and our profession.

Like the Portuguese Literature Nobel Prize Jose Saramago said: “Lanzarote is not my land, but it is land of mine”.

I became a licensed tour guide in 2014 thanks to the recession, and the preparation of the official exam gave me the opportunity to improve my skills in history, art and ethnography of the Canary Islands.

I am a graduate in biology at Complutense University in Madrid, the city where I grew up.

Then I went to Australia in search of koalas, kangaroos and The Great Barrier Reef and I found them and best of all: my life partner was there too!!!

We came to Lanzarote in 1999 for one year and fell in love with this surprising, magic and unique island.

My professional experience has always been related to my passion: nature. In Timanfaya National Park I worked as a guide and biologist, doing some flora and fauna studies and being responsible for The EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).

I am fortunate to work with my friend Jose, to do what I love in Blackstone, a company that is committed to sustainable tourism, in an incredible “office” and meeting people from different countries. It is a privilege for me to transmit my passion and knowledge of the island that I feel my home and the place where my daughter was born.
